By a show of hands…
How many of you have come home to realize that your kidneys, liver, and brain have ganged up on you with a collective “what the fuck, buddy?”
Less than I may have guessed but most of you are lying. That’s because you don’t read Blake.
“Those who restrain desire, do so because theirs is weak enough to be restrained.” – from “The Marriage of Heaven and Hell” by William Blake.
Okay, so maybe I’m a bit of a nutcase but I still have a hard time seeing why it is that so many people spend their whole lives working to collect toys but accomplishing nothing. Every man must work; that is a given. But work to what end? We work for money to buy things we think we want but can’t use because we endlessly work to pay them off. Mamet wrote a line into one of his movies that states, “If you don’t make you’re own fun, it’s entertainment.”
Blake and Mamet in the same breath, eek.
Stuff means nothing. It is a banana peel on the path to freedom.
Someday I’ll be dead but today is not that day.
